Gwen's sexy jailhouse frock

Lags eleven ... sultry Stefani shows some leg

GORGEOUS GWEN STEFANI opted for a spot of jailhouse rock as her tour landed in Sydney.
The leggy, blonde mother sported super-sexy prison attire and a pair of micro dungarees for the show in the city's Acer Arena.
Aided by a pair of burly fellow 'inmates' the diva dazzled during the gig, which is part of her Sweet Escape world tour.
The mammoth jaunt, which has already stopped off in Brisbane is due to land in Malaysia at the end of August.
However a Muslim group is calling for the show to be scrapped on the grounds that it would clash with local Islamic values.

The Sydney shows were awesome. We didn't have the best seats but made the show completely different being able to see the stage from a bit of a distance, compared to up front, so wasn't so bad! I'll post some pictures up once I've unpacked.

Who was the guy who got to go on stage at the end of the second night?

Congratulations to all of you that met Gwen and the band. I met Stephen briefly on the second night, such a nice guy! Funny to see him just walking around and no one recognised him.

The crowds were pretty good I thought for the type of show it was, I think we pissed a lot of people off on the second night singing along haha. I was suprised that people were sitting down during the show, in that respect the NZ crowd was better because everyone was on their feet the whole time from what I saw. Also in NZ we didn't have the cage/WIU steps or the big keys and G lights at the top - didn't realise until the first Sydney show.....

TMZ-Gwen Goes Wild Down Under

The most photographed creature in an Australia zoo today wasn't a kangaroo or a koala -- it was little Kingston James McGregor Rossdale, Gwen Stefani's son.

Gwen took her 14-month-old to the Featherdale Wildlife Park in Sydney, where the two checked out the wild kingdom, along with Stefani's entourage. Rocker daddy Gavin Rossdale was nowhere to be seen, though baby Kingston looked comfy in the arms of another dark, handsome man. Hot manny alert!

Not to be outdone by little Suri Cruise's recent bipedal breakthrough, Kingston hoofed it for a bit on his own two feet, before being strapped into his car seat and driven home. G'day!

Gwen opens up in Sydney

By Kathy McCabe

ON her Australian tours with No Doubt, Gwen Stefani saw hotel rooms, concert venues and the highways in between.

Now, thanks to her toddler son Kingston and her husband and musician Gavin Rossdale, her solo tour consists of a play date at tennis star Lleyton Hewitt's home one day and a visit to Featherdale Wildlife Farm the next.

Buoyed by a deafening reception on Monday night, Stefani said solo success and the birth of Kingston had been inspirational.

"I wrote some of these songs when I was pregnant with Kingston, which was weird," she said.

"It's been really inspiring and addictive and made me want to go back in and write more songs."

Stefani strikes a personal note during her concerts when she dedicates The Real Thing, a song from her first album Love Angel Music Baby, to her son.

"He's stupidly cute, it's crazy. Just yesterday he was different, his personality is adorable," Stefani gushed like every new mum.

"That song was the one song on the record that Gavin wrote on. I never write with him but we were at the beach together and I had to get that song done and I was stuck and asked him what he'd put in the verse.

"It's kinda cute and not that many people know about that."

Stefani said one of her tour highlights was being greeted by the screams of dozens of young girls as she left Acer Arena on Monday night. "It's so weird for a girl to scream for another girl. They were screaming like I was Shaun Cassidy or something. It was a surreal moment," she said.

"It is cool to be a girl for a girl. I felt proud about that."

Stefani said she will begin working on the next No Doubt record later this year.

"The guys are already in there working. I can't wait," she said.

Gwen Stefani Angers Malaysian Students

by Jason Gregory
gigwise.com

The National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students has called for Gwen Stefani’s upcoming show in Kula Lumpar to be cancelled because of its content.

The star is due to travel to the country next month as the Asia leg of her Sweet Escape World Tour gets underway.

A representative of the Union said, however, that the show should be cancelled because “the video clips promoting the event are too obscene.”

The group's President Mohamad Hilmi Ramli added: “We want the organisers to cancel the concert, failing which we will ask the authorities to intervene," reports dotmusic.

President Ramli also criticised the Malaysian mobile phone firm Maxis Communications – who sponsor local tours – accusing them of encouraging “moral decay.”

He said: “Maxis has been staging a series of foreign acts...to make a profit and to expose our young generation to things such as moral decay."

Gwen Stefani angers Muslims

Gwen Stefani could be forced to cancel her Malaysian show after a Muslim group branded her "indecent" and "obscene".

The singer, who is currently on the road with her 'Sweet Escape' tour, is due to perform in Kuala Lumpur next month but the National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students want the concert scrapped because Gwen's image offends Islamic beliefs.

Mohamad Hilmi Ramli said: "Her video clips promoting the event are too obscene. We want the organisers to cancel the concert, failing which we will ask the authorities to intervene."

Ramli also slammed Malaysian mobile phone company Maxis Communications for promoting Gwen's concert and exposing young Malaysians to "moral decay".

He fumed: "Maxis has been staging a series of foreign acts to make a profit and to expose our young generation to things such as moral decay."

Gwen's Kuala Lumpur show is due to take place at the Stadium Putra on August 21.

The 'Hollaback Girl' singer will also perform in Australia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, China and Hawaii before taking her tour to Europe.

(Bec)de-tec-tive- I MET GWEN!!!!!
woot i'm back! currently weeding through the 60 emails in my inbox, hopefully i can post pics by tonight but *** there's so much to do! here's a quick summary of my last few days:

friday - flew to Brisbane, wasn't planning on waiting at the airport to meet anyone but Debbie (deejay) had been waiting all day and met the band in the morning, and Gabe said if she stayed where she was Gwen, Gavin & Kingston would come through. so obviously i stayed and waited with her. also called my friend Claire and told her to get her *** over there asap. they finally came out, i called out but she wouldn't stop. i was walking right behind Gavin and called to him about 3 times, he heard me and sort of turned around and smiled but didn't stop. we met two paparrazzi people there, they were nice people even though they didn't know *** about Gwen. i gave the guy my details and after Gwen etc left the airport they followed her. later that night i got an sms from him telling me what hotel they were staying at.

saturday - got an early morning sms telling me i was in the paparazzi photos from the airport, crazy! headed over to her hotel around 10am, waited on a seat in reception. met Warren and Zach (both really nice, i just said hi not expecting them to stop but they actually stopped to talk. Warren gave me a hug, he was so nice). saw and said hi to Steve, Gavin and Chris, they just said hi and kept going on there way. saw two harajuku girls, a couple of dancers, and the nanny leave to take Kingston for a walk and return. around 1pm this girl came in and said she worked for Gwen, asked if we (me & Debbie) were waiting to meet here and apologised telling us she wasn't there, so i left and went shopping for the afternoon.
the concert was sat night, i was row N, it was really good, i was really impressed with her voice. Gwen saw and pointed to my towel/sign, and Gabe also saw it at the end and held up his drink as a thanks/cheers.

sunday - flew to Sydney and met Adam (Second Floor). when i got off the plane i had an sms from Debbie telling me she was on the same flight as EVERYONE so we got the gate number and arrival time and waited. there was about 10 of us total, i think Adam and i were the only ones who actually cared about her though. one guy said her new album is ***, and another guy wasn't even going to the concert cos he only likes ND.
i called out hi to each person getting off the plane (including Donnie) and also Gavin. he recognised me (third time he'd seen me) and gave me this shocked look like "omg it's you again!" in a good way though.
everyone started following Gwen etc and we realised we had our bags with us still, so Adam followed and i got our bags thinking nothing would happen. i magically caught up to the group and they were still following her. Gavin and the rest had gone one way, it was just Gwen, Curtis, Kingston, the nanny and some guy who i haven't worked out yet what he is to Gwen were there waiting for the lift. we went downstairs to wait, they went around the corner into a room to wait for the tarago, mystery guy tried to tell us to leave her alone.
Gwen was playing with Kingston (so cute!), the tarago came and Kingston was put in, then Gwen came and quickly signed our stuff and got in the car. i'm not sure if she was gonna leave, i think she was going to, then she got out and was gonna take photos with everyone. mystery guy took them, he was a bit of a jerk. Gwen said "one last photo" and this 50yo lady jumped in front of me and Adam. Adam was like "Gwen! the shoes! look at the shoes!" (pointing to our RS vans). then Gwen said "hang on i didn't get one with these two guys" - how ***** awesome!!! the photo is ***** TERRIBLE though, and in the hurry i forgot to put the flash up so it's a bit blurred. Gwen looks perfect though.
monday (yesterday) - we checked out Sydney during the day then the concert was that night. we were 2nd row and was right in the midde, freaking perfect view. when Gwen came out she said something like "where's all my favourite people?" and i held up my towel and she pointed to me, and then she saw Adam next to me and she recognised him too! throughout the show i held up the towel at various times, i got on screen with it too. i took one photo at the start and they told me to put my camera away, so i just had to wait til WYWF and take a bunch. they came out good.
then after the show Ben (a guy we know from another forum) came to talk to us, and thanks to him we were nearly the last ones to leave the arena, and as we were walking up the steps i hear someone call out "hey Rock Steady!" and it was Donnie! i went down and he gave me a tour pick out of his pocket, i thanked him and said "see you in Melbourne" and him and another roadie said "awesome!".. ...........go to the forum to read more and see some great pics

Sydney Rocks To The Beat Of Gwen Stefani

Combine an amazing vocal performance with a night of pure energy and you get a “Sweet Escape” with Gwen Stefani. Gwen dazzled fans during a concert last night at the Acer Arena in Sydney, where she was met with the roaring approval of the packed house.

With an impressive list of hit songs to back her up, Stefani was able to keep the crowd movin’ as she grabbed their breath and never let go. By choosing crowd favorites, Stefani kept the momentum going as she performed several songs including: What You Waitin’ For, 4 in the Morning, Rich Girl, and Wind it Up.

During one part of the show, Gwen even got down and dirty with the audience, as she stepped off the stage and performed amongst her fans. And while all performers hope to have a great show, last night’s concert created two of those picture perfect moments for Gwen.

The first took place during the playing of Holla Back Girl, when the entire stadium hollered right back, singing the entire song. However, for Gwen, the icing on the cake was being able to take the time in front of her fans and dedicate “The Real Thing” to her 14 month old son Kingston; combining a mothers loving tribute to her son with a performers need to share herself with the fans that watched and supported her as she grew into the super star that she is today.

Until then, enjoy the photos of Gwen performing in Sydney

Sydney Rocks To The Beat Of Gwen Stefani

Kaleidoscope of style dazzled ears and eyes

Quieter moments … in her Sydney solo debut, Stefani's ballads were less successful than the more upbeat numbers, which benefited from a rougher treatment than on her studio albums.

IF EVER there was an artist whose huge success is a product of the image-obsessed video age, it's Gwen Stefani.

Yet at her first, sold-out Sydney show as a solo artist, the platinum-blonde pop star dazzled.

Her years of experience fronting the ska-pop band No Doubt probably contributed to a visually spectacular show that didn't forget it was about the music.

Chatting frequently to the crowd between songs, Stefani said she would have toured here sooner but "I got lucky": her pregnancy with her baby son Kingston had prevented her.

She came on stage in a gilded jail cell, while two of her Harajuku girl dancers were chased through the crowd by other dancers dressed as police.

Wearing micro-hotpants in a highly stylised version of convict black and white stripes, with black tights and ankle-threatening platform heels, Stefani sang her recent hit The Sweetest Escape.

Male and female cops and robbers dancers performed behind her. Prisoner never looked like this.

Outfit changes followed rapidly. Stefani appeared in a sparkly French maid-inspired ensemble, in a short sexy tweed coat and then in a glittering pair of red hotpants.

The Harajuku dancers changed from weird schoolgirl uniforms to kimonos and then candy-coloured puffball dresses.

Playing with a six-piece band, Stefani roughed up the high-gloss perfection of her albums.

The songs were better for it, from hits like the brilliant nonsensical cheerleader chant Hollaback Girl to the genuinely wacky Wind It Up, which features samples from The Sound of Music.

Ballads including Four in the Morning were less engaging, but judging by the screams none of the crowd appeared to mind.

Stefani steals Sydney's heart

WHO wears the shorts in the world of pop?

Gwen Stefani wears the short shorts better than anybody else on the big stage this year.

While Christina Aguilera may have impressed with powerful pipes last week, it was Stefani who stole the hearts of an adoring crowd at Acer Arena last night.

The No Doubt front woman, who has parlayed her group success into an international solo career with her two albums Love. Angel. Music. Baby. and The Sweet Escape, dazzled with her golden smile as much as she did with a dynamic concert.

Stefani set the tone for a great night out from the outset, when her dancers invaded the crowd to herald her appearance.

An hour later she ran a marathon throughout the cavernous arena to get up close to many of the fans she had winked or pointed at earlier.

Sparkly costume changes only served to highlight just how many hits she has enjoyed in the past few years including What You Waitin' For, 4 in the Morning, Rich Girl and Wind it Up.

But the highlights were undoubtedly when Stefani gave it over to the crowd on tracks like Holla Back Girl which was roared back at her by the entire audience.

The endearing performer struck a sweet personal note, dedicating The Real Thing to her baby son Kingston, 14 months.

Stefani performs her final Sydney concert at Acer Arena, Sydney Olympic Park, tonight, with a limited number of seats still available.

Me: Gwen, are you going to release Candyland?
Gwen: Umm, probably not soon, no.
Me: We love that song
Gwen: Awww hahaha

Yah for me. I have literally brushed shoulders with Gwen.

Gwen Stefani's Hewitt play date

By Gemma Jones

Pop star Gwen Stefani made a surprise appearance at Lleyton Hewitt's sprawling northern Sydney property yesterday.
Stefani took a detour from her Australian tour to give her baby Kingston a play date with baby Mia Hewitt at the Kenthurst property which is owned by the tennis star and his soap star wife Bec.
Kingston, who is 14 months old, played happily on a giant play set with 20-month-old Mia as their proud mothers watched on.
Stefani also took time to talk to workmen at the Hewitts' property.
The singer, who jetted into Sydney after a concert in Brisbane on Sunday, left after a few hours to prepare for her sold-out Sydney show, leaving husband Gavin Rossdale behind.
The British rocker is rumoured to be a tennis fan.
There was no sign of Hewitt but it is believed he was planning to attend Stefani's concert at Acer Arena last night with Rossdale and wife Bec.
Earlier in the day a nanny took Kingston shopping while his mother remained at her Sydney hotel. Kingston was fussed over by his mother's "Harajuku Girls" who normally dance with her on stage but happily took on the role of babysitter.
Stefani has been a fan's dream while in Sydney, starting at the airport where she signed autographs for waiting fans. She will perform again tonight

Gwen Stefani arrives in Sydney

Gwen Stefani Impresses In Sydney

was never a huge fan of Gwen Stefani until 3 Mobile invited me along to her
Sydney show on Monday night.
A lucky few of us went to a little gathering before the show to see Gwen up-close-and personal, where she received a 3 Platinum Music Download award for her amazing music download sales. Gwen gave a little speech and posed for pics, whilst we nibbled on yummy food. Not a bad way to spend an evening!

The concert itself was fantastic too. I could not believe that Gwen just had a baby – she had the stomach of a twelve year-old (an extremely fit one!).

I felt sorry for Bec and Lleyton Hewitt (who were seated right in front of me) - they were just trying to enjoy the show, but had people constantly asking them for pics and photos.

The end result of my night with Ms. Stefani? She is now on high rotation at my place.

Tell us what you think

The Gwen Stefani Concert in Brisbane was the best i have seen in a long time! i went to Christina the week before and im a huge fan but it was obvious that she was not well as she didnt have the same engery levels as her stripped tour that i saw in 2002. I was a huge fan of Gwens before hand but now im an even bigger fan - when she ran into the crowd it was the most fantastic thing i have ever seen. She made a lot of fans really happy that night it was absolutely brillant. Cant wait to see her next time she comes to Brisbane.

I took my 12 year old daughter to see Gwen in Brisbane, this was my daughter's first ever concert. My daughter loved it! Imagine both our surprise when Gwen was suddenly right in front of us in the mosh pit as she decided to do a run around, my daughter got to quickly touch Gwen, she was ecstatic!! I can honestly say this was the best concert I have ever seen at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. I'm 38, so I've seen quite a few :-)

oh my god i have found a computer, i could not believe when we were checking in and turned around and the whole band were behind us. they were taken out the back way. Anyway when we went to where the plane boarded the boy dancers and Harajuku Girls were sitting there as well. had a great chat to them they are awesome!!!! they signed my sign and then Gwen just walked up the desk, Kingston asleep on her shoulder, she was right behind me, i just froze. don't have much time now but i spent the next 1/2 watching Kingston, after he woke up, walking around the airport and playing with another little girl, he was sooooooo cute. i could not even think about getting the camera out i just felt so privilaged to be watching this little boy. Gavin and Gwen went off to get coffee with Curtis and i did not see them again until the were on the plane. they looked pretty tense so i was just happy being in their presence. Didn't talk to her but i hate flying and it was the best flight of my life, she was on the same plane as me. All i need now is Gwen's sign. And the dancers were trying to organise that for me cause they remembered me from friday in brisbane. i have forgot to bring some no so please give me a call if you are sydney today and want to meet up. catch u again tomorrow!!!!!

Breath of fresh air

At a time when her contemporaries appear to be locked in competition to outdo one another's bad behaviour, singer Gwen Stefani has proven herself a breath of fresh air.Leaving Brisbane yesterday ahead of her Sydney concert tonight, the 37-year-old greeted photographers with a smile and even agreed to be pictured with a group of fans outside the airport.Other celebrities would do well to take note of her conduct and copy it in future.

Stefani's a superstar mum too

SHE is one of the hottest musicians in the world and has an entourage at her beck and call.

However, pop queen Gwen Stefani showed she was very much a hands-on funky mama as she jetted into Sydney yesterday with husband Gavin Rossdale and their 14-month-old son Kingston.

Looking every inch the superstar in dark shades and bright red lipstick, Stefani looked very comfortable carrying her baby on her hip and even strapped him into his babysit herself.

The 37-year-old singer of hits including The Sweet Escape and Hollaback Girl left Brisbane early yesterday after two sell-out shows and will perform at the Acer Arena at Olympic Park tonight and tomorrow.

Before flying south she took a walk around Brisbane's CBD with her baby and British rocker husband Rossdale, who is lead singer of hit band Bush, yesterday - causing fears they would miss their flight.

But the early morning stroll turned into a four-hour impromptu tour of the city, including lunch and a toy shopping spree for Kingston.

Tonight's show was believed to be sold out, but there are now a limited number of rear view seats available

There are also a limited number of tickets available for tomorrow night.

Gwen Stefani's sweet escape

POP pixie Gwen Stefani caused concerns for her minders yesterday when she was late returning from a morning stroll through Brisbane's CBD.

She had stepped out with husband Gavin Rossdale and their 14-month-old boy Kingston.
The trio headed off just after 7am and returned some hours later, a good half hour after the 80-strong entourage had checked out of the Sofitel and headed to the airport to catch a 1pm flight to Sydney.

"We're a little late," Gwen said on their return. "We got a little lost. It was great, though."

Gwen and Gavin's trek through Brisbane included the Riverside Craft Markets at Eagle St, where the two enjoyed buying some playpen goodies for their son.

"We bought some toys for Kingston," Gavin said.

Gwen left the hotel just after noon, stopping first to pose for photos with several fans and also some of the hotel's staff, before being whisked away to re-join her entourage.

The 37-year-old played two shows at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on the weekend and returned just after midnight on Saturday night with her bodyguard and tour manager.

Wearing a grey zip-up tracksuit top, she covered her head with the hood and briskly walked inside the hotel and through to the lifts although there was no paparazzi or even a fan to greet her.

She held a private function in her suite on the 28th floor of the Sofitel, although several band members and dancers headed to the Met nightclub in the Valley.

Also attending the 28th floor soiree was promoter Michael Chugg, who had arrived at the hotel on the stroke of midnight.

I went to the Brisbane show too, and I agree that it was absolutely amazing. I'm ashamed to admit for a while I was worried because I've heard a few people say she sounds awful live, but whoever says that is on some sort of drug. She sounded amazing. I was about half way back from the stage, but when Gwen ran into the crowd I was like, ten metres away, and I was like, wow, this is sooooooo amazing!

What You Waiting for was definately the highlight for me, but the entire show was just WOW. Oh, and thanks to Deb for the bands. I gave one to each of my friends and they thought they were great! I wish I was going to more shows now. I had so much fun. Kinda sad it's over :(

Gwen Stefani with son Kingston and husband Gavin Rossdale in Brisbane, Australia

Gwen's sweet escape

By Lucy Carne
July 29, 2007 12:00am

ONSTAGE she is a chart topping diva, but offstage Gwen Stefani shines in her other role – as mum to one-year-old Kingston.

There was no celebrity fuss and fanfare for Stefani when she arrived in Brisbane on Friday night to begin her Australian Sweet Escape tour.

Arriving with her husband, British rocker Gavin Rossdale, Stefani, 37, glowed as a yummy mummy.

Dressed in a tracksuit and dark sunglasses, she opted to push Kingston in a stroller, before hoisting him on her hip.

The jet-setting toddler has been by his mother's side during her world tour and has clocked up 14 stamps in his passport.

Last night, Stefani wowed fans at a meet and greet before the show – arriving with Kingston on her hip.

In a rare move, Stefani mixed and signed autographs at Brisbane Entertainment Centre with her tot in tow.

When the blonde bombshell went to meet a small group of fans about 7pm, the youngster wouldn't release his grip.

She managed to pry him off by 8.45pm when she burst on stage in a jail cell, dressed in sexy convict costume.

The 10,500-strong crowd of mainly teen and twentysomething girls, were in raptures during the first song, Sweet Escape.

Stefani looked radiant as she belted out Rich Girl and Yummy.

Sisters Emma, 19, and Aimee Krebs, 21, from Gatton, were mesmerised by their idol.

"We love Gwen, we've been fans since her No Doubt days," Emma said. "She's unbelievable on stage."

In Brisbane, Stefani opted for simple accommodation. She was booked into both the Brisbane Sofitel and the Saville on South Bank and asked the Saville for a self-contained apartment for her and her family.

Her requests are in contrast to fellow platinum blonde chart topper Christina Aguilera, who performed in Brisbane last week.

Mum-to-be Aguilera refused to stay in Brisbane and instead flew by private jet to and from Sydney for her two shows.

In Sydney and Melbourne, her hotel windows were blacked and she used lookalike decoys to deflect unwanted attention.

Gwen Stefani, son Kingston and husband Gavin Rossdale arrive at Brisbane Airport for the start of her Australian tour

FORUM FANS WERE AT THE AIRPORT TO GREET GWEN:)
Debbie(deejay on the forum) quickly posted on the forum to tell us how it went!!(thanks Deb:)x

(Debbie)deejay-Re:GWEN AUSSIE TOUR DATES!!
my day started early and i got to the airport about 10.30 for an 11am arrival, i wandered down to where the limos were to see if there was one with a car seat. when i got back to the terminal i saw a rather familar hairdo, Gabe's. i wandered around him a bit and then just went up and said are you Gabe, he was a bit surprised and told him when i was there and we had a chat for about 10-15mins, he told me the rest of the band were going through customs but Gwen was not with them, slowly the rest of the band came out and i got all their autographs. he assured me though that if i hung around all day i would definately see her. i showed Gabe the wristbands and gave him the bag with theirs in it i also gave him the backpack etc so i know Gwen will get it. I WAS THE ONLY ONE AT THE AIRPORT at that stage, i stayed around while they packed their things in their cars and left, Gabe said he would see me tomorrow. i was heading back down towards the limos when this group of japanese people were asking each other where they had to go so i asked if they were the Harajuku Girls and they were a little surprised and said yes so i took them down the ramp and showed them where their bus was!!!!!!!! i showed them the wristbands and they thought they were awesome, i told them Gabe had one for each of them. that was about 12noon
met de-tec-tive off the plane and headed back to the international terminal. we were there from about 3 - 5.30 waiting. then Gwen, Gavin and Kingston came through the doors, straight away some guy from the tabloids starting taking photos and Gwen face dropped, i didn't see that i just saw her so i walked straight up to her took her hand arm and said thanks for coming and that Gabe had some presents for them and she said thanks a lot. they were hearded to the car, i kept saying thanks for coming etc. While Gwen was fixing Kingston up Gavin was just standing there and smiled i held up me wrist and look at these can i come over, he nodded. i went over and showed him the wristbands and said Gabe had theirs then i asked i he wanted one of mine and he ok and i said thanks and they glow in the dark and we would be wearing them at the concerts, her gave it to Gwen when he got in the car and she waved at us when they were leaving. oh god i can go on!!!! i am still so pumped up!!!more on the forum

when i was talking to the band, and that was for about 1/2 an hour while they were waiting for them all to get through customs, i told them i was from the forum here and that we had been following everything for years and they all said they would come on and say HI!! they were really amazed that so many people followed what they were doing and i was asking questions about they things they had been doing and some of them said they knew nothing about what the others were doing outside the tour and how cool it was we were following them. Zac even thought australia would not have many people following them and was surprised when i told him how popular Gwen was. Warren said he had his computer with him and i told him i knew that he was on the plane to NZ and that it was posted on here. so watch for them!!!!!!

Hollaback Girl pops into Auckland

Stuff.co.nz Thursday, 26 July 2007

GOING BANANAS: Pop star Gwen Stefani performs during a sold out show at Auckland's Vector Arena.

Pop star Gwen Stefani has wound up a sold out show at Auckland's Vector Arena with a set full of her hit songs.

Performing in front of a young crowd in the fully-seated arena, Stefani played hits Wind It Up, Hollaback Girl and The Sweet Escape with an entertaining troupe of dancers.

Before performing Cool, Stefani jumped the barricades and ran to a smaller stage in the middle of the crowd.

She then jumped a second barricade and ran into the seated areas at the back of the arena, to the squeals of delighted fans.

Her show also featured many costume changes, including giant bows, crop tops, glitter skirts and maids outfits.

Stefani arrived in Auckland on Tuesday with her husband Gavin Rossdale and son Kingston. She was spotted at Auckland Zoo and shopping in Newmarket.

There were plenty of dramatic theatrics and bizarre costumes during Gwen Stefani's sold out show at Auckland's Vector Arena. Reviewer Chris Schulz was there.

Watching international acts attempt to win Kiwi audiences over is always a bit of a laugh.

Most settle for spouting a bit of Kiwiana, saying hi to the fans at the back and telling the crowd they're "the best yet".

Not Gwen Stefani.

Two-thirds of the way through her sold-out show at Auckland's Vector Arena, the Hollaback Girl jumped the security barricade and ran past the fully-seated floor crowd to get up close and personal with her "delicious" fans in the back seats.

Not content with standing in front of them, Stefani jumped a second barricade, ran up a flight of stairs and joined the squealing masses to sing her '80s synth-pop homage Cool.

Hey, even Pink didn't do that.

It was a thrilling highlight in a set full of sophisticated pop songs, multiple costume changes, great dance routines and enough theatrics to rival a West End play.

Stefani promised her "shit was bananas", and for the most part, it was.

But it wasn't a great start. Stefani opened the show with a lukewarm version of her current hit The Sweet Escape, emerging from the wings wearing the first of many fashion crimes - a black-and-white striped secretarial outfit.

The songs improved. The outfits - ranging from giant bow ties to glittery mini-skirts, tights, tailored jackets and crop tops - didn't.

During Rich Girl, Stefani - a budding fashion designer - proved her vocal versatility when she rapped Eve's verse herself and began to win the crowd of mostly young teens over by asking why she hadn't visited sooner.

She answered the question herself during Yummy, when - wearing a maid's outfit - she sang: "I know you've been waiting, I've been off making babies".

She later dedicated a song to her hubby Gavin Rossdale and son Kingston, who are both on tour with her. Aww.

But the big question on everyone's lips was, could the yummy mummy and former No Doubt front woman yodel? Stefani's bonkers hit Wind It Up provided her biggest vocal challenge, and she proved she could pull if off - even if the crowd helped her out a little.

Stefani also had help from a large crew of back-up dancers, who provided plenty of energy behind her during a series of impressive routines. Stefani - who gave birth just a year ago - proved she and her pancake-flat stomach could easily keep up with them.

The show fell a little flat during slower songs like Early Winter and The Real Thing, but they proved to be the only filler in the 90 minute set.

Stefani has plenty of hits - and ridiculously quick costume changes - up her sleeve to keep the crowd entertained, and she knew the right time to bring them out, just like she knew when to jump the barricade to meet her fans.

Hollaback Girl, Now That You've Got It and the disco pop encore What You Waiting For? were major highlights from a pop star who knows how to win an audience over from the back to the front.

When a pop star is this good, it's easy to forgive their fashion crimes.

Feedback:

I just Loved Gwen's concert! She kept the crowd hyped with her upbeat songs and her awesome attitude. I loved her Hollerback Girl song the best, the crowd went wild singing 'b-a-n-a-n-a-s'. She really impressed me with her vocals too. I thought her voice talent was minimal but she blew me away with her all her songs. She had so much energy and got the crowd really hyped! Go Gwen!
-Renee Ills

Hot Hot Hot, is all I can say! Gwen Stefani showed me last night exactly why I have been a fan of hers for 10 years. The concert was everything I thought it would be and more! The crowd was pumped, the screaming was loud and the atmosphere was buzzing with energy! She put on a faultless show, and I really liked how she connected with the audience on a personal level, running through the crowd to sing in amongst her fans! I wont forget this easily and I would be back in a flash to see her again! Thanks for coming to our lil' corner of the world and putting on a show that has topped my list!
-Shay M

We had tickets in the fourth row in front of the stage, and loved every minute of the show! I loved the dancers, the quirky outfits, the lot. I was amazed by Gwen's energy, and she kept me on my feet dancing the whole night - which is no mean feat! I had so much fun, and woke this morning with her songs in my head and wishing I could do it all again. She promised her next album will be a No Doubt album, and I can't wait. Hopefully the full house last night will motivate her to make the trip back here!
-Margaret Sandham

This is one of the most rubbish reviews I have read in some time. I'm not a huge fan of Gwen's and I'm not 13 either - but I can appreciate that she is incredibly talented, and as far as live local performances go - she could hardly be faulted. She was quite frankly amazing. As for the costumes changes - I thought she did really well and the costumes suited her personna, style, and themes of the show. Unlike other female performers such as Britney Spears - this woman has class. Pop isn't my chosen genre, but Ms Stefani put on a great show last night - and I applaud her talent, professionalism and energy.

That was the most amazing concert in every sense of the word. Even the kind gesture from the kids in row 3 who managed to get 3 little toys up onto the stage, a kiwi, a cow and a buzzy bee that ended up going back stage with the dancers....Didn't think much of Gym Class Hero's, the lead singer forgot that you have to pull your jeans up past your bum cheeks.... and the white undies?? Please give me a break... Wish I was on a flight to Brisbane for tomorrow nights concert as I would see her again in a heartbeat.

Sarah
All I can say is.... BRILLIANT! I am definately a Gwen fan! She is so talented, and her dancers were also so talented and very entertaining. The whole show from start to finish was fantastic! I also thought it was brilliant that she got into the crowd and sang whilst standing with the fans...... I have been to many large concerts, and this must be the best show I have seen!!! GWEN ROCKS!!!!! :)

Gwen Lover, Auckland
I was extremely excited about this concert and I was not disappointed. The night from start to finish was freaking fabulous! Gwen is one hot, talented mamma!

Margaret, Otara
Thank you for a great concert. Well put together. I clapped my hands from the beginning of the concert to the end of the concert. Thats how good it was. We are so honoured that you came down.

Olivia, Auckland
I've always enjoyed Gwen Stefani in No Doubt and have followed her through her solo career. I wasn't her biggest fan but last night she had had me screaming like a 14 yr old school girl! When she came into the crowd I was metres away and like the rest of the crowd I was going crazy! The energy was fantastic, her vocals were spot on and her costumes were hot! I'm going to go do some stomach crunches now...

Jada from Auckland
Wow what a fantastic show!!, High energy, great songs, great sound, great vocals, great dancers!!. It was waaaay better than Pink's show. I loved the way Gwen come into the crowd and sang with us, she had the crowd on her feet singing to "Cool", just loved it. Very down to earth lady as well, chatted to the audience a lot too which is always a nice touch. It would have been a bonus if she had sung a No Doubt song though.Lets hope she makes her way back down here soon, i would have gone to a second show had we had one.

Jen Ben
Thank you Gwen for best concert I have ever attended. To me, you out rocked one of my all time favourite bands Queen. That concert has been at the top of my list since I was 18 as no one, or band I have seen in live over the past 20years here in NZ has topped our Freddie Mercury expect you Gwen Stefani. Not only was Gwen classy & stunning, but her dancers & band were acceptably outstanding. I'm still buzzing from just having the luxury of seeing her live, I thank you for the privledge to one of the music world's greatest perfomers.

Peter Auckland
Was Beefyboy at another concert or is he deaf and dumb as his comments certainly don't reflect the concert I was at. Gwen was stunning to say the least. The show was the best I have ever seen and I have seen plenty, believe. The energy and enthusiasm, totally out of this world and sound wise, excellent. I now a confirmed Gwen fan, I just wish the rest of NZ could see what a great performer she is.

Nicolala (Auck)
GWEN is amazing!!! This minx rocks my world! What a way to lose my Vector virginity.

I just got home and am on the net already cos everyone's gone to bed haha

It was AMAZING. Didn't seem like there was a spare seat in the arena. Second row was a very good view
Gym Class Heroes were awesome, can't wait to see them at their own show in Sydney because they put on a very good show but the crowd didn't know many songs. Played for about half an hour
No changes in the set list that I am aware of - played Wonderful Life though. No Flourescent or U Started It.
I would say she'll definately be back with ND judging by her response, she seemed pretty stoked on the place and kept apologising for not being here in so long. She pointed out all of the people with signs which was cute haha. The band were awesome of course. There were video screens, didn't seem like much was downgraded from the US tour from what I could tell.

I'll post some photos up later - just got a camera so was playing around with it a bit so there's plenty of crap ones haha

For all you Aussies - to be honest the merch was pretty average. Just a few tour shirts, posters and tourbooks, and it was pretty pricey so I didn't buy anything because I'd rather order off the net.

I gotta say, after seeing tonight it just makes me more excited for ND back together and on tour

Righto gotta get some zzz's as I have a plane to catch tomorrow! Hope everyone who was there had a sweet time More on the forum

kt005.AUCKLAND, NZ SHOW REVIEW
It was incredible!

For Cool she went up (directly in front of us!) and sang in the audience!

She did mention ND recording soon and then touring here.

I don't really know what to say that's new... the audience was a bit tame at first, but eventually warmed into it. Gym Class Heroes were good (I think someone was asking whether the main singer would sing with Gwen - he didn't). Gail Ann Dorsey was AMAZING, Stephen & Gabe did their dancy thing like they do at ND concerts. The breakdancers were fantastic and got a huge crowd response.

Gwen talked about the flight, saying how it was worth it to come all the way here, and she'd do it again milliions of times for this audience. She talked about taking Kingston to the zoo and seeing the elephant, and something about a round turning thing.. it was really cute, she couldn't find the words to describe it (I got the impression she was talking about a merry-go-round type thing).

In the bit where she gets the audience to imitate her she said "kiwi", and also mentioned Auckland a lot during the show.

The Auckland doorman who got to fix Gwen Stefani's TV

Most people were unaware a singing sensation was in their midst last night but one man will always remember the night he fixed Gwen Stefani's television.

The blonde star, 37, arrived at Auckland Airport from Los Angeles about 6am yesterday for her Sweet Escape Tour show tonight at Vector Arena.

The singer was accompanied by her husband, British rocker Gavin Rossdale, and her 1-year-old son, Kingston.

The Herald visited the Sky City Grand where she was staying with her family last night. Most of the hotel workers refused to talk about Stefani but one doorman, who did not want to be named, told how he got to play handyman.

"When I got to work at 3pm they told me she was in-house and they told me to go to her room and fix her TV," he said.

"When I got in it was her, her husband and her little baby. She was getting a bottle ready for the baby."

He apologised to her about her broken TV.

"She was very very nice. She said 'that's fine'."

He spent about six minutes in the room and said although he was nervous he tried to act professionally. Stefani tipped him but the doorman would not say how much.

He said he was a big fan of hers but did not have tickets for the show.

The singer, with baby in tow, paid a visit to Auckland Zoo.

Last night Ticketmaster said sales for the concert had gone well and predicted the show would be a sellout.

Gwen hits the road again with her jet-setting toddler son Kingston

Everywhere Gwen Stefani travels, her son goes too. So little Kingston will probably have more stamps in his passport than any other one-year-old on the planet as the pop princess tours the world promoting The Sweet Escape, her follow-up to 2004 disc Love.Angel.Music.Baby.

The first stop on their musical odyssey was Mexico City where mother and son were pictured taking a stroll with Kingston's dad, former Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. As the family set out to do a spot of sightseeing, the devoted mum lovingly cradled her little boy close.

In the coming months the trio will visit such far-flung destinations as Singapore and Thailand. Undaunted by combining motherhood with the challenging itinerary, the Hollaback Girl was full of excitement about hitting the road, though. "I'm taking four female dancers - Love, Angel, Music and Baby - and four boy dancers," said Gwen. "There are going to be a lot of costume changes, lots of dancing and singing, and lots of fun!"

Gwen Vamps for New L.A.M.B. Perfume

The "Sweet Escape" singer unveils her new designer fragrance in a sexy ad.

Love, Angel, Perfume, Baby! GWEN STEFANI's new fragrance, the latest addition to her L.A.M.B. empire, debuts exclusively in Nordstrom this month with a sexy ad campaign featuring the ruby-lipped singer.

"I want you all over me" is the print ad's provocative tagline, which appears next to a shot of Gwen emerging soaked and sensuous from the perfume bottle. "L," a L.A.M.B. fragrance by Gwen Stefani, retails for $55 and $70, comes in a red, yellow and green bottle. It's described as having top notes of sparkling green freshness, leafy water hyacinth, white freesia, fresh pear and violet leaves.

"Every designer basically fantasizes about a fragrance being part of their collection," Gwen tells us. "Basically, it's another thing to put on in the morning."

Gwen has been designing L.A.M.B. clothing for three years and tells us she feels like fashion is her true passion.

"It's something I want to do for the rest of my life," she says. "Designing is something I really, really enjoy."

The 100 top radio songs of 2007 (so far)

The final national radio airplay audience chart for the first half of 2007 is in, so it's time to list the biggest hits of the year to date, according to data from Nielsen BDS, Arbitron and Radio & Records and skillfully massaged by Anthony DeBarros. And here they are:

1. Beyonce, Irreplaceable: Seven weeks at No. 1 in 2007 proper. Its lead would probably have been insurmountable had it not spent much of its early chart life in the last 10 weeks of 2006.

2. Nelly Furtado, Say It Right: A bit of a surprise, since it never hit No. 1, but it was a top 10 fixture for months. I'm not going to argue; it's my second-favorite radio hit of the year. (My fave is also in the top 10.)

3. Akon, Don't Matter: One of three songs he's on in the top 20. Six weeks at No. 1.

4. T-Pain w/Yung Joc, Buy U a Drank: Eight weeks at No. 1, the champ in that department so far this calendar year.

5. Lloyd w/Lil' Wayne, You: One week at No. 1.

6. Robin Thicke, Lost Without U: A breakthrough hit.

7. Gwen Stefani w/Akon, The Sweet Escape: No. 1 download of the year so far.

8. Justin Timberlake, What Goes Around ... : My favorite pop hit of the year.

9. Mims, This Is Why I'm Hot: Two weeks at No. 1. Don't ask me why.

10. Daughtry, It's Not Over: Top Idol on the airplay chart.

Nos. 11-100 (if my energy holds out) follow.

11. Timbaland w/Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake, Give It to Me

12. Fray, How to Save a Life: Hit the chart in early September, so more power to it.

13. Diddy w/Keyshia Cole, Last Night

14. Fergie w/Ludacris, Glamorous. Big Girls may ultimately beat it.

15. Carrie Underwood, Before He Cheats. Top country song on the list.

16. Akon w/Snoop Dogg, I Wanna Love You

17. Ludacris w/Mary J. Blige, Runaway Love. No. 1 for a week.

18. Omarion, Ice Box

19. John Mayer, Waiting for the World to Change. Steady airplay since September.

20. R. Kelly or Bow Wow, I'm a Flirt. Airplay for both versions combined by Nielsen BDS.

Gwen Stefani's "Sweet Escape" is the most popular digital track

Digital Music Sales Up
While album sales are down again this year, digital music sales are up nearly 50 percent.

More than 400 million digital tracks have been sold in the past year.

Gwen Stefani's "Sweet Escape" is the most popular digital track, followed by "Cupid's Chokehold" by Gym Class Heroes and "Makes Me Wonder" by Maroon 5.

As for albums, nearly 230 million have been sold over the last year, a 15-percent drop.

Still, overall music sales are up 14 percent.

Record industry executives say they're looking for alternatives to traditional albums to help them cash in on the digital boom.

One idea is to offer digital song and video packages.
